The Jefferson County Republican Committee will screen candidates interested in running for New York states 21st Congressional District beginning at 7 p.m. Jan. 30 at the Black River Valley Club.
Only candidates who have filed with the Federal Election Commission, including Elise M. Stefanik, Willsboro, Joseph M. Gilbert, DeKalb Junction, and Michael F. Ring, Adams Center, will be invited to participate, according to Donald G.M. Coon, chairman of the Jefferson County Republican Committee.
The meeting itself is not open to the public, although the candidates will be available for media interviews beforehand, Mr. Coon said.
This is being done to ensure that candidates and committee members have an opportunity to speak candidly, according to Mr. Coon. Approximately 100 committee members will vote on which candidate to endorse in the 2014 election, Mr. Coon said.
New Yorks 21st Congressional District is represented by William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh.
