Man charged with breaking cellphone in alleged domestic incident

A Watertown man was arrested early Sunday after city police said he took a cellphone away from a woman attempting to call police and then broke the phone during an alleged domestic disturbance.

Anthony M. Torres, 21, of 221 E. Main St., Upper Apt., was arrested at 5:24 a.m. at the residence he shared with Sara H. Torres, who accused him of taking her cellphone valued at $600 and breaking it, preventing her from calling police during the alleged altercation.

Mr. Torres was charged with third- and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

He was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, where he was held pending arraignment in City Court.

Ms. Torres has requested a stay-away order of protection against Mr. Torres.
