SRF boys outlast BMC for East Division win


BRUSHTON - The lone matchup to survive yet another overdose of unsettled winter weather saw the St. Regis Falls varsity boys basketball team claim a 63-55 NAC East Division win on the road over Brushton-Moira on Monday.

Among the games to be rescheduled to tonight are a pair of Central Division boys hoops encounters pitting Massena at Franklin Academy and St. Lawrence Central at Salmon River while the Massena at Canton girls hockey game was moved to Friday at 4 p.m.

In their win over B-M, the Saints fell behind 14-12 by the end of the first quarter before outscoring the host Panthers 36-17 over the next team en route to pushing their undefeated record to 9-0 and division-leading record to 5-0.

Brandon Votra led all scorers with 23 points in the winning effort. Ryan Duquette added 14 points followed by Louis Goodrow with 10 and Corey LaBounty with nine.

Leading the way for B -M (2-5, 1-3) were Alex Burnett with 14 points and Zach Burnett with 10.


In a high school girls hockey game played on Saturday, Potsdam skated to a 1-1 non-league tie against Albany Academy at Pine Street Arena.

Albany opened the scoring on Marielle McHale’s power play goal with 4:46 left in the first period before the Lady Sandstoners broke through for the equalizer when Kalie Grant found the back of the net with 8:54 left in regulation.

Sidney Molnar (6 saves) and Allie Compeau (16 saves) shared crease duties for Potsdam while Zoe Shannon made 27 saves backstopping the Albany cause.

Now 5-2-1 overall, Potsdam is slated to return to action on Wednesday by hosting Lake Placid at Pine Street Arena starting at 6:30 p.m.
