Nominations due Friday for Downtown Business of the Year Award


The nomination deadline is Friday for the Downtown Business of the Year Award, which will be given to an outstanding business in downtown Watertown. The award will be presented during the Downtown Business Association of Watertown’s annual social event Jan. 24 at the Paddock Arcade. A cocktail hour will start at 5 p.m., followed by complimentary food for members and the announcement of the business of the year at 6 p.m.

Any small business in downtown Watertown is eligible for the annual award, sponsored by the DBA and the Watertown Small Business Development Center. Those who submit nominations must include their name, telephone number and reason the business deserves the award.

Last year’s winners were Watertown Audiology PC and Steve Weed Productions; WWNY-TV received the “Downtown Institution” award. Watertown Local Development Corp. and American Kang Duk Won Karate were presented with community service awards. Several other downtown businesses received honorable mentions: Northern Federal Credit Union, Whispering Angel, Tunes 92.5, Dance Alley, the Crystal Restaurant and the Paddock Club.

Previous winners of the Business of the Year Award include Bistro 108, the Agape Shoppe, Arcade Barber & Beauty Shop, Impossible Dream Thrift Store, Waterbury Fine Jewelers, Lyng’s Office Center, Dr. Guitar Music, Paddock Club, Cam’s Pizzeria, A Second Look Bookstore, Severance Photo, Avon Shoes, J.J. Stocker’s, Neighbors of Watertown, DGM Coon, Rose & Kiernan, Stream Global Services and North Country Arts Council.
