Energy savings targeted at Morristown Town Hall

MORRISTOWN — Town Hall may receive an upgraded lighting system in the coming months, leading to potential savings.

Town Clerk David J. Murray said a survey conducted in December by Smart Watt Energy, Syracuse, showed that a $1,500 investment by the town could result in nearly $700 in savings per year down the road. The town now pays roughly $250 per month to light the Town Hall, Mr. Murray said.

A savings of $700 per year would result in the town repaying its initial investment in just over two years.

“That’s significant,” Mr. Murray said.

The upgrade would see the town being fitted with light-emitting diode, or LED, bulbs that are energy efficient.

“I think for $1,500 we can go with LEDs throughout the whole building,” Mr. Murray said.

Another option would be using high-efficiency fluorescent bulbs.

Regardless of the town’s direction, Mr. Murray said, the building’s light fixtures need replacing.

Smart Watt presented its survey findings last week.

Mr. Murray said he expects more discussion and a possible decision at the Town Council’s next meeting, which will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Town Hall.
