The bicyclist injured in a hit-and-run accident Sunday night on State Street was listed in good condition Monday night at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.
Damien LaBarge, of Watertown, remained conscious on the scene as he was treated by Guilfoyle Ambulance, then transported to Samaritan Medical Center on Sunday. He was later transferred to the Syracuse hospital.
A city firefighter said his bicycle was struck by a vehicle shortly before 8 p.m. and the driver left the scene, traveling east on State Street, and leaving Mr. LaBarge lying on the sidewalk near the Jet Gas station, his mangled bike nearby.
A witness said he saw Mr. LaBarge grocery shopping at the Great American supermarket less than a block from the scene before the incident.
Mr. LaBarge works as a newspaper carrier for the Watertown Daily Times.
No information from law enforcement about the driver has been made available.
