Copenhagen man faces prison time for illegally trying to sell gun


A Copenhagen man faces up to three years in state prison after admitting Monday in Jefferson County Court that he illegally tried to sell a firearm.

Jeremy F. Snyder, 28, whose last known address was 7958 Cobb Road, pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon and third-degree attempted criminal sale of a firearm. He admitted that on April 1 in the town of Champion he possessed a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 rifle with the intent to sell it. It was illegal for him to possess the gun because was convicted of third-degree burglary in Lewis County Court in 2011.

He is expected to be sentenced Feb. 14 to 1 to 3 years in prison. The sentence will run concurrently with a pending sentence in Lewis County Court, where he pleaded guilty Dec. 6 to fourth-degree grand larceny. In that instance, he was accused of stealing a gun belonging to George Rauch on April 1 in the town of Watson. Sentencing in that case is scheduled for Feb. 7.

In other court activity:

Keegan R. Dick, 20, Watertown, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He admitted that he possessed brass knuckles Oct. 11 in Watertown. It was illegal for him to have the weapon because he previously had been convicted of fourth-degree criminal mischief. He is expected to be sentenced Feb. 21 to nine months in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.

Drew M. Schroy, 18, formerly of Watertown, now an inmate at Ulster Correctional Facility, was sentenced to 20 months in prison, followed by a year of additional supervision upon his release, after Oct. 16 guilty pleas to third-degree attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance and third-degree attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance. He admitted that, with another, he tried to possess heroin with the intent to sell the drug within the county May 13 and that on the same day, he also tried to sell the drug.

The sentence will run concurrently with a sentence he is serving from Bronx County on a conspiracy conviction. Additional information about that sentence was not available from the court or the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision website.

Michael S. Hill, 34, Watertown, was sentenced to an unspecified amount of time served a the PSB and five years’ probation after a guilty plea in November to third-degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine. He accused of possessing materials needed to make methamphetamine following a traffic stop in May on Route 12 in Burrville.

Patrick Occhino, 29, Clayton, was sentenced to time served at the PSB and five years’ probation after a Nov. 4 guilty plea to second-degree assault. He admitted that on March 23 in Clayton he struck a man with a glass object, causing a cut to the victim’s face.

Rodney W. Waite Jr., 39, Theresa, was sentenced to a year in the PSB and five years’ probation after an Oct. 15 guilty plea to first-degree reckless endangerment and an admission that he violated probation. He admitted that on July 14 in the town of Theresa he caused the risk of serious injury or death to a woman by shooting a shotgun in the direction of a vehicle she occupied. At the time, he was serving three years’ probation imposed in November for fourth-degree criminal mischief. He admitted violating probation by being convicted of the new crime.
