CANTON The University of Vermont scored the games first three goals en route to a 4-2 victory over St. Lawrence University on Tuesday night in nonconference play at Appleton Arena.
The slumping Saints (8-10-2), who played for the first time in 23 days after their exam/holiday break, were dealt their fifth consecutive loss and have dropped eight of their past 10 games.
Goalie Brodie Hoffman made 22 saves his second straight victory over the Saints. No. 18-ranked Vermont (11-6-3) won 5-1 in St. Lawrences previous game on Dec. 14.
Brian Ward and Greg Carey each scored a goal for the Saints, who closed within 3-2 in the final minute of the second period, but Jonathan Turk scored 90 seconds into the third for the Catamounts.
Senior goalie Kyle Macdonald stopped 30 of 34 shots in his second start of the season for St. Lawrence.
The Saints last won a game more than a month ago 5-2 at North Dakota on Nov. 29.
St. Lawrence doesnt play again until a week from Friday when it returns to league play, hosting Brown and Yale on Jan. 17-18, both 7 p.m. starts.
