Aubuchon Hardware, which operated for four years at its Route 68 location, has closed its doors.
Poor sales and competition from other hardware stores, such as Tractor Supply, 1051 Park St., Ashleys Home Center, 7596 Route 68, and Lowes Home Improvement, 2001 Ford St. Extension, contributed to the stores closure, Chief Operating Officer Daniel P. Aubuchon said Tuesday via telephone from corporate offices in Westminster, Mass.
It definitely did not help, he said. Although we have maintained a nice store, the business was just not there. We ended up folding the tent on Saturday.
The doors were locked and the stores two full-time and two part-time employees were informed of the closure Saturday. A single sign taped to the door reads, Store Closed Due to a Lack of Business. Thank You for Your Support and Patronage.
Employees have been offered jobs at other locations, Mr. Aubuchon said. The closest Aubuchon store to Ogdensburg is in Gouverneur.
Aubuchon also operates stores in Malone, Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and West Carthage.
We usually do very good business in Northern New York, he said.
Mr. Aubuchon said the building will be up for sale.
We are usually not in the business of renting, but if someone wants to rent it, we would be open to that, he said.
The location was previously occupied by a Sears home appliance store.
