TUPPER LAKE - There were two startling moments in the overtime of OFA’s NAC Division II Hockey matchup in Tupper Lake on Wednesday.

The Blue Devils (5-5, 4-3 NAC) survived the first and scored on the second to gain a well-earned and much needed 3-2 victory.

Moments after OFA goaltender Dave Prudhomme made a game-saving sprawling save in a wild scramble, Austin Morley-Sloan controlled the clear and found Nolan Rufa with a pass down the wing. Rufa skated inside the blue line and whipped the puck on net where it eluded TL keeper Tyler Nilsson.

“We were very lucky in the overtime Tupper Lake came very close to scoring. On our goal, Nolan Rufa was just looking to put the puck on net for a rebound and it bounced off the goalie’s shoulder and went in,” said OFA Coach Jon Frederick after the win which will be a prelude to an important week at the Golden Dome where the Devils will host Potsdam in a Monday makeup game and then host the Brian Wade Jr. Memorial Tournament on the weekend. “We had three different scorers tonight which was good and Dave Prudhomme played very well in net again. We started strong and Tupper Lake skated very hard.”

The Lumberjacks rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of power play goals. Tim Fuller scored from Bryce Guerrette at 5:21 of the second period and Elliott Fletcher converted from Hudson Sparks on a 6-4 power play with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation.

OFA took its 2-0 lead with goals in the first and second periods. Morley-Sloan scored on a power play goal from Zach Barr and Burke Comeau at 10:30 of he first period and Austin Putman scored from Mark Morrow at 4:20 of the second period. Tupper Lake’s Nillson finshed with 30 saves on the night. OFA’s win was one of three NAC thrillers on Wednesday (See stories on page 6). In a match of Division I unbeatens Massena nipped Canton 1-0 and a Division II matchup saw Norwood-Norfolk trim St. Lawrence 3-2.
