Massena Central outlasted Division I rival Canton 1-0 and Norwood-Norfolk rallied to claim a 3-2 Division II decision over St. Lawrence Central in a pair of key mid-season NAC boys hockey matchups on Wednesday.
Massena 1, Canton 0: Ryan Moffitt redirected a shot from the point by teammate Maddox Merry into the back of the net for a power play goal 9:32 into the game and the Raiders made it stand for the win as they raised their Division I leading record to 6-0 while handing the host Golden Bears their first NAC setback of the season.
Devin Page also drew an assist on the game-winner while senior Connor Paquin handled the 15 shots he faced working the crease for the shutout. Sophomore Jon Stone stood tall making 30 saves backstopping the Canton (4-5, 2-1) effort.
N-N 3, SLC 2: The visiting Icemen (3-1) twice rallied from one-goal deficits.SLC opened the scoring when Lukas Arquiett one-timed a centering pass from Kody Kocsis into the back of the net from the right slot for a power play goal at the 12:06 mark of the first period. Hadyn St. Hilaire also earned an assist.
The Icemen got their first equalizer just 2:19 into the second period when Austin Cousineau finished off a play set up by Kaden Pickering and Shane Fobare but the Larries regained the lead at the 12:26 mark of the middle frame when Luke Peets converted from Arquiett and Joe DiMatteo.
The Icemen wasted little time pulling even as Jeff Mott struck just 15 seconds later off assists from Cousineau and Pickering. The Icemen completed their comeback 3:50 into the third period when Zeb Brown converted on a centering pass from Pickering. Cousineau picked up his second assist on the eventual game-winner. Brandon Richards turned aside 25 shots handling crease duties in the win while Nate Burnett tallied 31 saves for the Larries (3-5, 1-3).
Salmon River 4, Malone 1: The Shamrocks broke away from a 1-1 tie with three unanswered third-period goals.
Salmon River opened the scoring just 2:12 into the game when Tye Terrance converted from Tyler Sisto but the Huskies pulled even less than two minutes later when Trevor Cooley finished off a play set up by Jake Henning and Trevor Henderson.
The Shamrocks (4-40, 2-1-0 NAC) used a quick scoring burst early in the third period to take control. Terrance netted the eventual game-winner at the 4:40 mark assisted by Chad George and Nate Smoke. Sean David made it 3-1 just over two minutes later off an assist from Ronnie Boots. George then sealed the win when he struck from Tyren Boots with 2:02 left in regulation. Aidan Comins turned aside 17 shots backstopping the win while Joey Brown logged 31 saves for Malone (3-4-1, 2-4-1).
