MADRID — A Madrid woman barricaded herself inside her home with three children Friday night, prompting state police to close Route 310 and bring in a negotiating team.

State police did not release the names of the people involved or the address where the apparent standoff occurred. The road was reopened at 10:30 p.m. after five hours.

At least one trooper with a rifle, two canine units and negotiators from Watertown passed through the roadblock at Route 310 and Buffham Road, about 1 mile south of the scene.

West Potsdam and Madrid volunteer fire departments were called to assist state police by diverting traffic. North of the scene, Route 310 was blocked at Route 345 to the north of the scene.

West Potsdam First Assistant Fire Chief Jerry A. Dibble said firefighters were called to close the road at 5:55 p.m. Traffic was redirected around the 2.5-mile stretch of Route 310 via Buffham Road.

Police had not released a report as of late Friday, but dispatch reports and one trooper at the scene said the incident involved a woman who had barricaded herself in her house with her three children.
