CANTON- Dr. Lawrence David Harter, age 84, of Watertown, NY, passed away on January 9th, 2014 at Maplewood Nursing Home, Canton, NY. There will be no services.
Lawrence was born in Watertown on November 29, 1929, to the late Lyle and Muriel Harter. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1947 and attended St. Lawrence University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Economics. He then attended Columbia University Graduate School of Business and graduated in 1953 with a Masters Degree in Business Administration. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army for 2 years before being employed by the CPA firm of Ernst & Ernst from 1955 to 1959. Changing direction, he attended New York Medical College in NYC until 1964 and completed his residency in Psychiatry at Brooklyn State Hospital in 1968. He worked as a psychiatrist in White Plains and with the New York State Drug Abuse Center Commission until his retirement.
In addition to his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his younger brother Philip James Harter. He is survived by his nephew, Jeffrey J, Harter (Judy), San Francisco, CA, his three nieces, Lisa Harter, Baldwinsville, NY, Laurie House (Stephen), Potsdam, NY, and Jennifer Harter, Wilmington, NC, and numerous cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lawrences memory to the Christian House Memorial Scholarship at Potsdam Central School, Leroy St., Potsdam, NY 13676.
