Virginia R. Hepfer, 78, of Pine Street and Leesburg, FL, died January 12, 2014 at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, NY.

Born in Redwood, NY on March 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Everett A. and Julia E. Harris Thornton. Virginia attended Redwood High School.

She married William J. “Jesse” Hepfer on July 11, 1953 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Redwood, NY. The couple lived in Plessis for many years until they retired and spent winters in Florida.

Virginia was a member of the Plessis Ladies Auxillary.

She enjoyed bowling, NASCAR and spending time with her family.

Survivors include 5 children; a son and his wife, William E. and Sandra Hepfer, Redwood, NY, four daughters and their spouses, Kathy and David Viens, Lakeland FL and Redwood, NY, Vicky and Gaylord “Butch” Williams, Redwood, NY, Tina Nier and Don Harris, Theresa, NY and Bobbi Steele and Michael Baker, Hermon, NY; fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; a brother and sister in law, Donald and Ruth Thornton, Watertown, NY; a sister, Marjorie Slate, Redwood, NY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband William J., a brother, Stanley Thornton, and a sister, Elizabeth Jarvis.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Thursday, January 16, 2014 at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa, NY with Pastor Frederica Webb, of the Redwood United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Plessis, NY in the spring.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 15, 2014 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in Theresa.
