H-D Sweeps, Hammond girls win


Hermon-DeKalb earned wins on the hardwood in boys and girls basketball action on Monday evening.

In NAC West Boys action, Hermon-DeKalb knocked off Hammond 42-39 at home for their second win - first in league - of the season.

Hermon-DeKalb had no letdown after a huge win over Heuvelton on Friday evening in NAC West Girls Basketball rolling past host Lisbon 67-34.Harrisville denied Morristown 43-28 and Hammond topped Edwards-Knox 67-48 to stay one game back in the West.


H-D 42, Hammond 39: Reilly O’Donnell delivered 20 points and collected six steals leading the Demons (2-9, 1-6 NAC West) past Hammond (3-6, 2-5 NAC West). Trevor Rolfe hit two big threes in an eight point performance while Cody Merritt was active on the boards with 15 and scored six points playing through a stinger on his shoulder. Payton Frisina scored 13 points for Hammond. Zech Cunningham added 10 while Brock Tulley added nine.


Hermon-DeKalb 67, Lisbon 34: Great team play continued for the Demons (7-1, 5-0 NAC West) who took charge at Lisbon (5-6, 2-4 NAC West) with a 18-9 first quarter lead.

Bridget Rust (20 points including 7-11 from the charity stripe) and Hunter Hitchman (15 points) each fired in three pointers for the Demons. Rust finished with seven steals, five assists and five rebounds while Hitchman logged six assists, four steals and five rebounds. Courtney Harrington added 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals while Paige Whitton added nine and four boards. Delaney Kerr (6 boards) and Kasey O’Donnell (5 rebounds) scored six and four points. Morgan Stott chipped in six boards.

Beth Crowley tallied 11 for Lisbon. Jackie Sovie and Alex Amo finished with 10 and six.

Hammond 69, E-K 48: The Devils (6-3, 5-1 NAC West) jumped quickly behind Cassi Whalen’s inside play and Courtney Bova’s driving ability against the Cougars (2-7, 1-6 NAC West) taking a 37-22 halftime lead.

Whalen scored eight of her 14 points in the first quarter Bova added seven of her game high 23 in the quarter.

Mikayla Horton finished with 14 points while Emily Bush added seven, Ally Crosby chipped in six and Hailey Ogden added four.

Katie Smith generated 14 points and Makenzie Frary scored 11 points to lead the Cougars while Jadilyn Bullock added 10. Arael Scott chipped in eight.

“I was very impressed with the hard work the Cougars displayed tonight in our game. They were very determined and it was nice to see them play with passion. Again we had spells of brilliance and times like we are just learning to play the game. But we are coming along. Gaining experience every step of the way. We’re just looking to improve every game until sectionals where it should be exciting,” Hammond coach Shawn Dack said,

In the JV contest, Hammond won 39-19. Sierra Fleming generated 22 points with Abby Hodgdon working hard for five and Melissa Proven for four.

For E-K, Makayla Bacon had seven points and exciting seventh grader Koryn Rowe had six. “The Rowe girl (Koryn Rowe) on E-K is going to be good. She has a great foundation and she flat out loves to play ball!”,” said Dack.

Harrisville 43, Morristown 28: Georgi Baker generated 14 points and Abby LaFaver added 10 leading the Pirates (2-6, 1-5 NAC West) over the 3-5, 2-4 Rockets. Courtney LaBeau added seven while Emory Matott chipped in six. Jordyn Tulley scored 10 for Morristown and Sam Green, Jessica Geddes and Taylor Piercey each added six.
