Syracuse Famous Artist Series staging ‘Memphis’ 3 days starting Jan. 28

SYRACUSE — “Memphis,” the Tony Award winner for best musical in 2010, will be staged at the Crouse Hinds Theatre at the OnCenter, 411 Montgomery St., at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28 through 30 at the OnCenter as part of the Famous Artist Broadway Theater Series.

“Memphis” takes place in the smoky halls and underground clubs of the segregated 1950s, where a young white disc jockey named Huey Calhoun falls in love with rock ’n’ roll and an electrifying black singer.

The musical is a story about the cultural revolution that erupted when the disc jockey’s vision met the singer’s voice, and the music in their world changed forever.

The show features music by Bon Jovi’s founding member and keyboardist David Bryan and lyrics by Bryan and Joe DiPietro. They also collaborated on the award-winning off-Broadway hit “The Toxic Avenger.”

The touring show is directed by Adam Arian. Jeramine Rembert is its choreographer.

Tickets are available at the OnCenter box office by calling 435-2121, Famous Artists at 424-8210 or Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.

Tickets and more information also can be found on Famous Artists website at
