FORT DRUM The omnibus appropriations bill presented by Congress keeps $4.7 million in funding for a drone hangar expansion at Wheeler-Sack Army Airfield.
The move was praised by Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand on Tuesday.
Building this facility will help us to harness the full potential of this new technology in keeping us safe and help the New York Air National Guard to effectively carry out its new mission and lead the way in integrating UAS into our national defense, Sen. Gillibrand said in a statement.
The funds will help build two more bays on the two-bay hangar of the 174th Attack Wing.
This funding, which was previously approved but not yet appropriated, will help ensure that Fort Drum continues to be a leader in the development of these remotely piloted aircraft, Sen. Schumers statement said.
