Corrections officer from Croghan accused of sending explicit material to teens


CROGHAN— A state corrections officer is suspended without pay, accused of sending sexually explicit photos and videos to two girls, ages 15 and 16, from August to October, according to state police.

Derek R. Farney, 25, of 9716 Beaver Falls Road, Croghan, was arrested at 7:25 p.m. Sunday at his residence and charged with two counts each of disseminating indecent material to a minor, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

Mr. Farney has been employed since May 2010 at the Sullivan Correctional Facility, Fallsburg, according to the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

He was arraigned in Elbridge Town Court and sent to the Onondaga County jail, Syracuse, with bail set at $10,000.
