State Police: Man claimed to be brother during traffic stop

EVANS MILLS—An Evans Mills man was arrested Tuesday and accused of lying to state troopers during a traffic stop, saying he was his brother.

According to police, Jason G. Smith, 29, of 8755 N. Main St., was pulled over for talking on his cell phone while driving and used the name of his brother in an effort to get out of the ticket.

Police said the brother was notified of the alleged incident when the traffic ticket was mailed to his residence and the ticket was in his name.

Mr. Smith was arrested at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the state police barracks in Pamelia and charged with second-degree criminal impersonation and obstructing governmental administration, as well as the original traffic ticket.

He was issued an appearance ticket for LeRay Town Court.
