Ronald George Forbes, 96, passed away peacefully January 12, 2014 at Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home in Warrington, PA.

A native of Coatesville, PA, he was born January 16, 1917 to the late Edgar Brenman and Minnie Ruth (Cordes) Forbes. He was married to Bernice I. Davis of Waycross, GA whom he met at Ft. Benning during World War II. She predeceased him in 1976. Later, he married Sylvania (Rink) Merz of Ivyland, PA. She predeceased him in 2002.

He is survived by a daughter Ruth Caroline and son-in-law Sam McNaught of Hertford, NC. Also surviving are three granddaughters Sherry Stacey (Robert) of Houston, TX, Sally McNaught of Chalfont, PA and Ashley Wampler (Daniel) of Chesapeake, VA and five great grandsons Caleb, Gideon and Nicholos Stacey and Jack and Sam Wampler.

Mr. Forbes was a 1938 graduate of Penn State University with Phi Beta Kappa Honors. He served in the US Army in WWII. After working for the Veterans Administration he graduated with a Master’s degree in local and state government from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1951. He served as assistant city manager in Danville, VA and assistant county manager in Arlington, VA. In 1957, he was appointed City Manager of Watertown, NY where he served for 25 years. Upon his retirement, he moved to Franconia Township, PA.
