RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. – The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team was in the game throughout but dropped a tight battle, 47-44, to the University of Maine at Presque Isle in a neutral site game on Wednesday played at Vermont Tech.

Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) paced the Roos (2-10) with 15 points and eight rebounds shooting 6-for-12 from the field. Zoey Smith (Adams, NY) hauled in seven rebounds and Alicia Uhlein (Watertown, NY) dished out a game-high six assists.

The Owls (10-3) led 27-24 at intermission. Terrance, a former Salmon River standout, led the Roos with nine points and six rebounds in the opening stanza, while Percy chipped in seven in the scoring column in the first 20 minutes.

Olivia McNally was the only Owl in double figures leading all players with 20 points as she shot 8-11 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from three-point range. SUNY Canton held a 35-24 rebounding edge while Presque Isle shot 42 percent from the field, compared to 38 percent for the Roos.

The women’s basketball team is back in action this weekend as it takes part in the Martin Luther King Classic in Montreal, Quebec. The Roos take on Rochester College Friday at 5p.m. before a 1p.m. tip Saturday against the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
