NORTH ELBA — Police found a body Wednesday morning that authorities believe is that of an Australian man who has been missing since New Year’s Eve.

State forest rangers located the body of a man near the summit of Scarface Mountain shortly after 11 a.m. State police said in a press release they believe he is 33-year-old Paul J. McKay, who was reported missing Jan. 3.

State police forensic investigators determined there were no signs of foul play.

Essex County Coroner Francis Whitelaw authorized the removal of the body, which was taken to Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed today by Dr. C. Francis Varga.
