HEUVELTON - Scoring in transition and working a set offense with equal effectiveness, the Heuvelton Girls Basketball team climbed to 8-1, 6-1 in NAC West Division play with a 73-35 victory over Lisbon on Wednesday.
Alexis (Weidner), Logan (Tallman) and Paige (McCormick) got us going early especially in the first quarter, said Heuvelton coach Rob Powers whose team outscored the Knights 23-6 in the first and 26-11 in the third quarter.
Weidner was steady all evening scoring 20 points, grabbing five rebounds and six steals and collecting five assists. McCormick delivered 16 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Olivia St. Pierre tallied eight points and eight boards and four assists. Logan Tallman hit three three-pointers in a 12 point performance and Maddie St. Pierre added six.
Beth Crowley scored nine points and Jackie Sovie and Katie Sovie each matched eight points for Lisbon (5-6, 2-4 NAC West). Alex Amo added seven.
In the junior varsity game, Heuvelton rolled to a 55-15 win. Alex Steele scored 14 , Nathalie Barr tallied 10 and Madison McCormick added eight for the win. Jaelin Calkins and Kristie Donnelly scored seven and six.
Claire Donaldson scored five points for Lisbon.
In NAC Central action Canton defeated Gouverneur, 61-35 at SUNY Canton to climb to 8-1 in the Central.
Tori Daley and Rachel Sanderson combined to score 16 and 10 points for the Bears and Emily Pinckney netted nine. Haley Easton and Alicia Way each scored eight points for Gouverneur
