K-9 dog leads to Watertown man’s arrest

City police and the city K-9 unit worked together on the arrest of a Watertown man Thursday night.

Police said they stopped Brian T. Morgia, 24, of 1002 Huntington St., on the 200 block of Arsenal Street for having a defective muffler at 7:36 p.m.

Patrolman Michael S. Maney and K-9 Nico were called in to assist in the search of the red 1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. During the search, two bags containing marijuana were found in the car, police said.

Nico, a German shepherd, is state and nationally certified by the North American Police Work Dog Association in narcotics and advanced narcotics detection.

Mr. Morgia was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and having a defective muffler. He was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building and held on $100 police bail pending arraignment in City Court.
