Yale keeps St. Lawrence reeling with 4-2 win

CANTON — John Hayden scored a pair of goals and goalie Alex Lyon made 28 saves as No. 8 Yale downed St. Lawrence University, 4-2 on Saturday night in an ECAC Hockey game at Appleton Arena to deal the Saints their seventh consecutive loss.

Jesse Root scored a power-play goal and totaled two assists for Yale (9-4-4, 4-3-3), which bounced back after a 3-2 loss at Clarkson on Friday.

Matt Carey and Jeremy Wick each scored a power-play goal for St. Lawrence (8-12-2, 2-6-2), which yielded the first four goals of the game, including three in the first period, for the second straight night.

Greg Carey recorded a pair of assists for the Saints, who have also lost 10 of their past 12 games and haven’t won since Nov. 29.

Wick later received a game misconduct in the final minute of the game when he was assessed a five-minute major penalty for charging and will sit out the team’s next game.

St. Lawrence plays next at Cornell on Friday and is at Colgate next Saturday, both 7 p.m. starts.
