CANTON - Courson Green scored his second goal of the game with 1:13 left in overtime to lift the Potsdam Central boys hockey team to a 4-3 NAC Division I win over Canton Central at the Canton Pavilion on Friday.
After trading solo goals in the first period, the host Golden Bears outscored the Sandstoners 2-1 in the second before Logan Ford tied the game with an unassisted goal at 4:23 of the third.
Connor Warden opened the scoring 6:14 into the game by finishing off a play set up by Billy Bergan and Mason Bartell but the Bears pulled even six minutes later when Cody Moore one-timed a pass from the right wing by teammate Gage Emerson into the back of the net.
Emerson gave Canton its first lead 7:41 into the second period off an assist from Nate Gibson but Green tied the game just 25 seconds later assisted by Josh Locey and Logan Ford. Tanner Sanderson put the Bears ahead 3-2 at the 11:06 mark assisted by Moore.
Zach Bolt stopped 23 shots working the Potsdam (5-5, 4-2) crease for the win. Jake Facey notched 29 saves for the Bears (4-6-1, 2-2-1).
In the first round of the Norwood-Norfolk Tournament on Friday, the host Icemen skated to a 4-0 NAC Division II win over Franklin Academy while St. Lawrence Central gained a 6-3 non-league decision over Plattsburgh High.
FA and Plattsburgh will square off today at 1 p.m. while N-N and SLC meet in what will serve as both the championship game and an NAC Division II matchup at 3 p.m.
N-N 4, FA 0: The Icemen (8-1, 6-1) took a 1-0 lead in the second period then broke the game open with three third-period goals. Coby Munson finished off a play set up by Brandon Cousineau and Jeff Mott just 1:50 into the middle frame for the only goal N-N would need as netminder Kyler MacIntire turned aside the 14 shots he faced to notch his second shutout of the season.
The duo of Kaden Pickering and Zeb Brown combined to help put the game out of reach in the third period. Pickering scored from Brown and Austin Cousineau at the 8:30 mark. Brown connected from Pickering and Brandon Cousineau four minutes later before closing out the scoring off an assist from Pickering with 20 seconds left in regulation.
Joey Brown made 39 saves in the losing effort.
SLC 6, Plattsburgh 3: In a game that featured three three-goal swings, the Larries went ahead 3-0 then answered a Plattsburgh comeback with the final three goals of the game in the third period.
Jake Sutton opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 9:19 mark of the first period before Kody Kocsis, who finished with three goals, netted the next two.
Plattsburgh countered with goals by Kurtis Olsen and Andrew Bechard in the second period then pulled even at 3:59 of the third when Jack Polosky connected for an unassisted goal. Kocsis restored the SLC lead at the 6:21 mark and Nate Stickney struck just 25 seconds later before Lukas Arquiett, who tallied a pair of assists earlier in the game, sealed the win with an unassisted empty-net goal with 47 seconds remaining.
Luke Peets finished with two assists in the winning effort while Hadyn St. Hilaire had a solo helper and netminder Nate Burnett made 27 saves backstopping the Larries (7-5) to their fourth straight win.
Dean Dashnaw stopped 28 shots for the Hornets.
At the Brian Wade Memorial Tournament at OFA, the host Blue Devils fell 1-0 to Saranac Lake while McQuaid Jesuit of Rochester beat Baldwinsville 7-1.
