Ogdensburgs Head Start program was forced to shut down Friday after two teachers became ill with flu-like symptoms. The center, located in John F. Kennedy Elementary School, has 17 children enrolled in the program.
The move was a precautionary measure. St. Lawrence County Head Start administrators could not confirm whether the teachers were officially diagnosed with the flu, Director Barbara Adams said.
All of our substitutes were working in different areas, so we closed down the program and did some sanitizing within the building Mrs. Adams said.
The center will reopen on Tuesday, Mrs. Adams said.
A St. Lawrence County Public Health Department official said Friday there have been 141 influenza cases reported within the county so far this season. As of last week, 13 percent of the cases that were reported were from Ogdensburg, while 43 percent were from Massena.
