Voters approve Indian River school capital project

PHILADELPHIA — Residents have approved the Indian River Central School District capital improvement project by a 4-to-1 margin.

Superintendent James Kettrick said 237 voters came out to the polls even though the district was closed due to the frigid weather Wednesday; 190 voted yes, 46 voted no, and one ballot was returned blank.

The $33.2 million project will include security upgrades, primarily in the middle school; construction of additional classrooms at Evans Mills Primary; expansion of the music facility at the high school; new health and physical education spaces at the intermediate school; additional cafeteria space at the intermediate school, Evans Mills and the middle school; the addition of a solar energy field, upgrades to heating and ventilation systems and reconstruction of the athletic fields and sports complex.

Details are available at the district’s website,
