HEUVELTON - The hunt is on at Heuvelton Central School for a new elementary school principal to replace Cindy Belleau, who left the district in November to become the St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services coordinator of district initiatives and curriculum.
Advertisements for the position are being passed around the state, Superintendent Susan E. Todd said, with candidates being given until Feb. 14 to fill out an application.
Mrs. Todd said, Ive reached out to St. Lawrence University and [SUNY] Plattsburgh because they have [school] admin programs, and a letter went out to every district superintendent with brochures and I asked them to share with their colleagues.
Applications for the position are also available on the district webpage: http://heuvelton.schoolfusion.us/
Once the applications are in, Mrs. Todd said the district will narrow down the candidates that we want to interview. Well be calling people to come in an interview probably at the beginning of March.
Mrs. Todd said she is hopeful that at the March board of education meeting they will be able to appoint someone to fill the position, giving whoever it is enough time to make arrangements to join the administration in Heuvelton. Mrs. Todd said the district wants to get someone in that position by May 1.
Currently Ogdensburg resident Randy A. Johnson is filling in as elementary principal at a per diem rate of $425.
A retired principal at Colton-Pierrepont Central School, Mr. Johnson filled in at Heuvelton in 2013 before the district hired Jesse C. Coburn as the middle and high school principal.
