Residents have the opportunity to restore ethics and discipline within the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department with the ongoing scandals among deputies disgraceful behavior, tarnishing the law enforcement image and county legislators embarrassed with the media coverage of indiscretions.
Reviewing the candidates seeking office this fall, one stands out:
Colleen M. ONeill, a former New York state trooper for 28 years. She has an impressive background involving leadership, etc., among men in law enforcement. She would be the first woman to hold this office, which is long overdue, and this would be a fruitful progress toward equality.
