Hermon-DeKalb, Heuvelton, Hammond roll in NAC West Girls Basketball

Hermon-DeKalb remained unbeaten while Heuvelton and Hammond earned road wins to remain one and two games back in the NAC West Division standings on Thursday in girls basketball action.

The Demons knocked off Edwards-Knox 75-34 while the Bulldogs topped Morristown 64-30. The teams will play at Heuvelton on Tuesday evening after Hermon-DeKalb travels to Edwards-Knox on Saturday in a makeup game.

Hammond rolled past Harrisville 66-25.

H-D 75, E-K 34: Excellent balance throughout the lineup contributed to the Demons remaining unbeaten in NAC West play at 8-0.

“We played very well as a team. Morgan Stott really had a nice game and both Chelsey MacKay and Delaney Kerr had nice games off the bench,” said H-D coach Steve Morrill whose team led 36-9 at halftime.

Hunter Hitchman paced the Demons (10-1 overall) scoring 18 points with two threes and posting nine rebounds, five steals and four assists. Courtney Harrington added 15 points, three blocked shots and three boards while Morgan Stott delivered 12 points, eight assists, four rebounds and one steal.

MacKay added 11 points and five rebounds while Kerr finished with nine points, five rebounds and two steals. Bridget Rust buried two threes with three boards, three steals and two assists while Kasey O’Donnell supplied seven assists, four rebounds and two points. Paige Whitton dished out four assists.

Jadilynn Bullock scored 12 points for E-K (2-7, 1-6 NAC West). Mackenzie Frary added 10 and Katie Smith chipped in six.

Hammond 66, Harrisville 25: Mikayla Horton fired in four three-pointers in a 18 point effort for Hammond (7-5, 6-2 NAC West). Cassi Whalen worked inside for 17 points while Paige Frisina hit two threes for 12 and Courtney Bova added a three in a 10-point effort. Aly Crosby closed the balanced scoresheet with nine points.

Mallory Baker scored six points and Georgie Baker added five for Harrisville (2-8, 1-7 NAC West).

Heuvelton 64, Morristown 30: Jump starting to a 24-3 lead at Morristown, the Bulldogs (10-1, 6-1 NAC West) received a 23 point, six rebound and three steal effort by Paige McCormick.

Long range shooting by the sister duo of Hannah Thornhill (three threes) and Rachel Thornhill (two threes, four assists)produced nine and eight points respectively while Alexis Weidner delivered eight points, three assists and three steals. Maddie St. Pierre added four points, four rebounds and four steals while Kylie Piercey chipped in four boards and four rebounds.

Olivia St. Pierre tallied six points and three boards while Logan Tallman contributed five assists.

Sam Green tallied seven points for Morristown (2-7, 1-5). Jordyn Tulley, Taylor Piercey and Mackenzie Barse each netted and Jessica Geddes added five points.
