The American Hockey Coaches Association has announced that former St. Lawrence University mens hockey coach Joe Marsh will be the 2014 recipient of the John MacInnes Award, recognizing him for his great concern for amateur hockey and youth programs.
The recipients of the MacInnes Award have had high winning percentages as well as outstanding graduation percentages among their former players.
Marsh will be among those honored at the AHCA national convention in Naples, Fla., in May.
Marsh spent 26 years behind the St. Lawrence bench and forged one of the most successful coaching careers in U.S. college history. He coached 12 of the 14 20-plus win seasons in SLU history. The Saints won ECAC titles in 1988, 1989, 1992, 2000 and 2001, and made eight ECAC tournament championship game appearances.
His 1988 team the NCAA Tournament runner-up and overall Marsh took eight teams to the NCAAs. Marshs career record with Canton is 468-399-72, with his wins ranking 26th all-time at the start of this season.
