Ogdensburg DPW continues efforts to solve Hamilton Street water leak

Ogdensburg Department of Public Works Supervisor Gregg E. Harland said it may be next week before a leaking water main on Hamilton Street is fixed.

The leak, in front of St. Mary’s Cathedral, 415 Hamilton St., was discovered Tuesday but as crews attempted to fix the leak they found a broken valve along the same line that needed attention first.

With cold weather making equipment more brittle and creating hazardous conditions DPW worked slow throughout the week, and Mr. Harland said they are working to ensure residents don’t lose water pressure while crews continue to look for a solution. The leak in front of the cathedral is not big, Mr. Harland said, and DPW has been applying extra salt to the affected areas to reduce ice accumulation.
