Copenhagen squeaked by Oriskany by just a point to capture its eighth consecutive Class D title at the Section 3 cheerleading championships on Saturday at Oriskany High School.

Indian River claimed the Class A crown, and Sandy Creek took first place in Class C.

Copenhagen scored 95.8 points, while Oriskany (94.8) finished second, and Lyme was third out of five teams in the division.

Indian River tallied 93.2 points to beat runner-up Mexico and third-place Watertown.

In Class B, South Jefferson (93.4) finished behind first-place Phoenix (105.3). Cicero-North Syracuse (114.9) beat four other schools for the Class AA crown.

Sandy Creek coach Tanya VanOrnum was named Section 3 coach of the year.
