Forecasters are expecting single-digit temperatures and up to 14 inches of lake-effect snow in the north country today.
A lake-effect snow warning and wind chill advisory remains in effect for Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego through Wednesday morning.
Moderate-to-heavy snowfall is expected in the northern half of Oswego County and southern Lewis and Jefferson counties with 7 to 14 inches forecast for today, 4 to 7 inches tonight and up to 2 inches Wednesday morning.
The band of lake-effect snow will slowly creep up north, according to the National Weather Service.
A few north country schools have been closed or put on a two-hour delay due to the heavy snowfall and wind chills as low as minus 20 degrees expected today.
In the most heavily affected areas, snow will fall at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour and blowing snow will reduce visibility even further.
