LOWVILLE – William K. Keith VanNest, 85, of Lowville, died at his home Wednesday evening, January 29, 2014.
The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Burial with Military Honors will be in Lowville Rural Cemetery in the spring. He is survived by two grandsons, James W. VanNest of Dallas, TX; and Andrew E. VanNest of Massena, NY; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Katherine VanNest of Lowville; Gerald and Shirley VanNest of Lyons Falls; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Burr of Lowville; Joan Skiff of Glenfield; Rachael Szucs of Greig; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by a son, James E. VanNest, who died March 30, 2000; his wife, Betty who died October 5, 2004; and a brother, Robert VanNest.
Keith was born on May 26, 1928 in Barnes Corners, NY, a son of the late Ferguson John and Anna McDonald VanNest. He graduated from Lowville Academy, and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Mr. VanNest retired from the Army Reserves after 40 years of service. On July 30, 1952, he married Betty Jackson in Beaver Falls, NY. Following his service, he worked for area businesses, and together with his wife, ran the Greig Hotel. He also did carpentry and contracting work for many years.
Mr. VanNest was a member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, VFW, and a member of Lowville American Legion Post #162.
