NY SAFE Act does not make any of us safer

To start with, the New York SAFE Act has only made a lot of law-abiding citizens into criminals. It has not and will not do anything to stop criminals or protect the public.

Jerry Moore claims that proponents of the Second Amendment have caused centuries of bloodshed. Also, that gun enthusiast have a roll to play in helping this nation move beyond its perpetually combative mindset and that many gun owners are among the first ones who need intervention.

Apparently, Mr. Moore would like a disarmed populace, such as Hitler had. He also states the assault weapons were now safer because they need to be registered. Apparently he thinks that all felons that have assault weapons will now stand in line to register those illegal guns.

To hear all the chatter, you would think that the background checks just started with the SAFE Act when in fact it has been mandatory in New York for many years. The new addition is between private sales and is only going to be adhered to by law-abiding citizens. The criminals will pay no more attention to this than they do any other law.

I ask Mr. Moore, and our dictator, excuse me, our governor, how many acts like Newton were committed by a sane person who follows the law? It’s not the guns, and not the gun owners.

A very high percentage of these acts were committed by the mentally ill. No SAFE Act will stop a deranged person.

Mr. Moore writes that Nazis and gun owners are of the same kind. It is so sad that a person, who is as smart as Mr. Moore seems to be, that he thinks that because I own a gun, I’m a Nazi.

When the Army comes to your door to collect your guns, remember, Mr. Moore will write about how great a day it was and how safe we all will be now that only the Gestapo has guns.

I urge all gun owners to call or write your representatives. But especially, call Gov. Cuomo and voice your displeasure with the SAFE Act and how it was passed.

When one person has so much power and authority to pass a law in the dark of night, that is so unconstitutional as the SAFE Act, we should all be very afraid.
