CANTON — Freshman defenseman Mike Graham scored the deciding goal 8 minutes, 10 seconds into the third period and St. Lawrence University went on to edge fourth-ranked Union College, 2-1, on Friday night in an ECAC Hockey game at Appleton Arena as the Saints halted their winless skid at nine games.

Freshman forward Drew Smolcynski scored in the second period and senior goalie Matt Weninger made 21 saves as St. Lawrence (9-13-3, 3-7-3) won for the first time since Nov. 29.

The Saints, who blocked nine shots in shutting down the Dutchmen (16-6-3, 10-3-0) for much of the game, also won for the first time in nine league games.

Daniel Carr scored a goal in the third period to become Union’s all-time leader in points.

Colin Stevens finished with 33 saves for the Dutchmen, who entered leading the ECAC.
