Plattsburgh trio charged with stealing $24K worth of electronics from Potsdam Walmart

CANTON - The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department charged three people following an investigation into theft of approximately $40,000 worth of merchandise from Walmarts in Potsdam, Massena and Malone.

Deputies charged Travynn L. Ippolito, 28; Brandy D. Young, 35; and Nina M. Duprey, 35; all from the Plattsburgh area, with two felony counts of third-degree grand larceny and misdemeanor charges of conspiracy stemming from the alleged theft of $24,000 worth of electronics on Jan. 23 and Jan. 27 from the Potsdam Walmart.

Charges are also pending in Massena and Malone, deputies said, and police are also investigating similar shoplifting incidents at Walmarts on Plattsburgh and Ticonderoga.

Deputies said the trio were located in the city of Plattsburgh with the assistance of the Plattsburgh Police Department.

They were arraigned by Potsdam Town Justice James Mason and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $15,000 cash or $30,000 bond for Ippolito and Young. Duprey’s bail was set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

Deputies said they were assisted in their investigation by Massena Village Police, Plattsburgh City Police, New York State Police, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, Tacoma, Wash., Police Department and the Auburn, Wash., Police Department.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Brooks J. Bigwarfe said the investigation is continuing, and further charges are pending.

The sheriff’s department and the Massena Police had reported Tuesday they were conducting a joint investigation of larcenies that occurred Monday at the Potsdam and Massena Walmart stores.

Police said that at approximately 6:45 p.m. Monday a male and two females entered the Massena Walmart and stole several tablets valued at more than $4,000 from the electronics department and exited the store. They left in a light-colored Chevrolet/GMC suburban.

At approximately 7:50 p.m. that same night, police said the same three individuals entered the Potsdam Walmart, where they stole numerous cellular phones valued at more than $20,000 from the electronics division and then left the store.

Police said at the time the larcenies might be associated with a similar larceny that occurred Jan. 23 at the Malone Walmart, where three individuals stole several electronic tablets valued at more than $4,000.
