One of Ogdensburgs own will be at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., today getting an inside look at Super Bowl XLVIII.
Kimberly A. Scharff Snyder will be there representing for Pro Player Insiders, an online news agency that reports on the lives of professional athletes off the field.
Ive been down here since Monday, Mrs. Snyder said Friday. There are a million and one things going on down here.
Mrs. Snyder, wife of George A. and mother of 13-year-old Jordan and 11-year-old Grant Snyder, is a literal jack of all trades with Pro Player Insiders and has spent her time in East Rutherford reporting, photographing, editing, organizing and managing a staff of roughly 20 people.
The week leading up to the big game has been a whirlwind of press conferences, VIP parties and special events held by the National Football League for its players, Mrs. Snyder said.
Its a far cry from the world of real estate, where Mrs. Snyder worked prior to coming on board with Pro Player Insiders about a year ago.
A mutual friend introduced Mrs. Snyder to one of the founders of Pro Player Insiders, and in the run up to the 2013 Super Bowl Mrs. Snyder left her job in real estate to write full time for the website.
At that time Mrs. Snyder, who admits that she is far from an expert on football, she was writing primarily from home but today she is often on the road conducting interviews and, this week, supervising the websites coverage on the ground.
Where Pro Player Insiders differs from your typical sports website is the focus.
I would never even try to write a football story with statistics, Mrs. Snyder said, but I could easily write a story about a players foundation or their visit to a childrens hospital.
Mrs. Snyder said her organization focuses on the positive and works to bring out the person under the pads, digging into who they are when theyre not sacking the quarterback or completing a pass.
We try to show them as people and not just as machines on the field, she said. These are the nicest people in the world.
To that end, Mrs. Snyder said, she spends a lot of time not only talking with the players themselves, but with their wives and families.
In the past week, for instance, Mrs. Snyder said she covered fashion shows featuring some of the wives of the players and attended seminars about the philanthropic work players do.
Even if they have a lot of negative press, we will do the positive side, she said.
Mrs. Snyder said she isnt sure whether she will have a chance to actually watch the game due to the amount of work shes doing.
But she does have a prediction: the Denver Broncos, she said, will beat the Seattle Seahawks.
Mrs. Snyder said the only thing that could prevent the Broncos from winning is – of all things – their press conference venue.
This week the Broncos held press availability on a luxury liner moored to a pier in the Hudson River. Mrs. Snyder said some reporters, including a Pro Player Insiders photographer, have gotten sea sick while covering events on the boat.
If they lose its because they stayed on that ship, she said.
