The remaining section of Empsall Plaza is in the hands of a new owner.
A local woman purchased the back section of Empsall Plaza that faces the J.B. Wise parking lot.
Vina Bonner, who owns other property in the city of Watertown, bought the mostly vacant property from a Florida-based lending company, Bayview Loan Servicing LLC, for $132,000, according to documents in the Jefferson County clerks office. She could not be reached for comment.
It was just in December that Bayview, the company that previously held the mortgage, acquired that section of the property.
Empsall Plaza is broken up into four parts. It consists of the section that Ms. Bonner acquired and two areas that Neighbors of Watertown Inc. took over in recent months. Neighbors also operates the Brighton Apartments.
Ms. Bonners plans for her part of the building are unclear. The Tunes 92.5 FM WBLH radio station, an insurance agency and a boxing club are the only current tenants.
Timothy P. Sweeney, 92.5s general manager, said the new owner promised she will honor the lease and the radio station can stay.
I only met the new owner for 15 seconds, he said. I dont know what their plans are.
In December, Neighbors purchased the 30,000 square feet of space most recently occupied by Velocity from Psychedelic Entertainment LLC, Englewood, Calif., for $130,000.
The housing redevelopment organization plans to begin renovation of that space and market it for commercial use. The floor above the Velocity space will be converted into 13 or 14 apartments.
In 1992, the agency completed renovation of the Brighton Hotel, which was developed into a 36-apartment subsidized complex.
Opened in 2006, Velocity closed suddenly in July. Velocity offered laser tag, a soft-play gym and arcade games, mainly for children.
