The Sci-Tech Center of Northern New York will celebrate the beginning of summer with The Great Snowball Melt, which will be held on Saturday, June 21, the Summer Solstice and the day summer begins.
The community is invited to participate in The Great Snowball Melt by collecting and saving a snowball this winter, and then bringing it to the Sci-Tech Center between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 21.
The biggest snowball will win a special prize, but anyone who enters a snowball at least 4 inches in diameter will gain free admission to the Sci-Tech Center that day.
A variety of other prizes will also be awarded.
Only one snowball entry per person will be permitted, and only frozen water will be allowed.
The Great Snowball Melt is a fun way to celebrate our snowy north country heritage, said Sci-Tech Director Stephen A. Karon.
He is hoping that enough snowballs will be brought to the event, because he says that it would be great fun to be able to build an actual snowman in front of Sci-Tech on June 21, to kick off the summer season.
The Sci-Tech Center, located at 154 Stone St., features more than 40 participatory exhibits for all ages, children and adults.
