GRAND LARCENY - MASSENA - Village police charged Brian N. Gray, 31, of Massena with third-degree grand larceny and petit larceny Tuesday afternoon following an investigation into the improper use of a credit card belonging to Danko Construction.

Village police had charged Jason A. Clookey, 34, of 8545 state Route 56, Norfolk, with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny on Jan. 14 in connection with the same investigation. He reportedly used the credit card issued to Danko Construction to make several purchases of cigarettes, beer and gasoline for friend’s vehicles between Dec. 4 - 7. He said he lost the card on the evening of Dec. 7. Gray reportedly ran up $964 worth of changes on the credit card between Dec. 7-9.

Clookey, in a statement he had signed for police, admitted he had stolen the credit card from his mother’s purse. “I used the card for about three of four days during this time and was purchasing cigarettes, beer and sometimes I would buy gas for friends’ vehicles. The last time I used the card was on Dec. 7 when I purchased $60 in gas from a friend’s vehicle and four packs of cigarettes,” he said, noting he then went to a Gray’s house at 49 1/2 Maple St. until 4 a.m. Dec. 8 before going to another friend’s house on Barnhart Road. “I passed out ... and woke up that next morning and the card was missing from my pocket.”
