FORT COVINGTON - The St. Lawrence Central varsity girls basketball team claimed a 49-42 decision on the road over NAC Central Division rival Salmon River on Monday.

Salmon River held a 14-12 lead after the first quarter and led 26-23 at the half but the Lady Larries rallied during the second half with 26 points, while holding the Shamrocks to just 16 to earn the Central Division win. Bailee Gauthier and Lindsey Thayer led the Larries with 17 and 10 points, respectively, as Morgan Greer and Chelsea Savage followed with seven points apiece. “I was pleased with our intensity,” said Salmon River coach Karen Francis. “We just had trouble finishing, and Thayer’s size caused a lot of problems for us in the middle.” The SRC coach also pointed out the both Gauthier and Thayer went 4-for-4 at the foul line while Breanna Evans and Jenna Kesner closed out the SLC scoresheet with four points each. Jaden Mitchell led the Lady Shamrocks with 12 points and half of the team’s four 3-pointers. She had six assists and four steals, while Kwiio King added a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds during the setback. Taylor Francis finished with an eight-point, six-rebound, four-assists game, while Jocelyn Martin and Brittany Brooks tossed in six and four points, respectively. Brooks added six rebounds and a pair of steals to the SRC cause. The Salmon River girls are right back on the court at 7 p.m. today, traveling to Ogdensburg to face the Blue Devils in a Central Division matchup. The Lady Larries (10-6, 8-5) are slated to close out their regular season on Thursday at home against undefeated division leading Franklin Academy. In other NAC Central Division action on Monday, FA turned back Massena 60-21, OFA outscored Potsdam 60-36 and Canton beat Gouverneur 83-37.

FA 60, Massena 21: In Malone, the Lady Huskies ran out to an 18-1 lead by the end of the first quarter en route to clinching sole possession of the 2013-14 regular season title by improving to 13-0 atop the division and 15-1 overall.

Samanntha Villnave paced the Massena (6-11, 5-8) offense with 10 points. Bailee Young added five followed by Meghan Villnave with three. Robin Boudreau, Devon Kelly and Sophia Rusaw added one point each.

Meghan O’Connor led a balanced FA effort with 15 points. Janelle Heden added 13 followed by Rachel Lamica with 12, Morgan Fountain with eight and Taylor Poirier with six.

The Lady Raiders are slated to close out the regular season on Thursday at home against OFA.

OFA 60, Potsdam 36: In Ogdensburg, the Lady Blue Devils only led 10-5 after the first quarter before outscoring the Lady Sandstoners (1-15, 0-13) 40-16 over the next two. Meg Dodge tossed through 24 points in the winning effort. Riley Luckie and Susie Morrow added 12 points each.

Sarah Vivlamore also had a 24-point night in the losing cause. Bre Sapp chipped in 10 points while Courtney DiTullio accounted for the other two

The Lady Sandstoners close out the regular season on Thursday at home against Gouverneur.

Canton 83, Gouverneur 37: At Gouverneur, the Lady Golden Bears worked their way to a 20-11 lead by the end of the first quarter then broke the game open with a 25-6 second-quarter surge. Natalie DiSalvo tossed through a game-high 19 points while Kali Frank and Meg Howard added 12 points apiece.

Rebecca Bulsiewicz and Jessica Rotundo netted eight points each in the losing cause.
