CLAYTON—State police on Tuesday arrested Kenneth L. Vergin, 51, of 532 James St., on charges that he struck a woman with a metal crutch during a domestic altercation.

Police said Mr. Vergin struck Vivian Simpson, same address, with a metal crutch, causing a cut on her forehead. Additionally, he was accused of breaking her TV earlier that day. The value of the damage is not known.

He was arrested at 4:40 p.m. at the residence and charged with third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was taken to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, and held on $500 bail pending arraignment in Village Court.

According to police, Ms. Simpson has requested a stay-away order of protection against Mr. Vergin.
