CANTON A former Massena man who had been accused of assaulting an infant was sentenced to a year in St. Lawrence County jail Tuesday.
Daniel A. Frederick, 30, of 4131 Route 310, Norfolk, formerly of 8 Bucktown Road, was sentenced for misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child.
The sentence followed a trial in October in which a jury after two days of deliberation was unable to reach a verdict on a felony second-degree assault charge. The jury found him guilty of the endangering charge.
The charges against Mr. Frederick stemmed from a March 16, 2012, incident when his then-girlfriend Kaitlin A. Murrays 13-month-old daughter, Isabella, had suffered a burn mark on her right cheek and several other red marks on her chest, back, arms and legs, according to court documents. She was treated at Massena Memorial Hospital.
Court documents state Mr. Frederick had been baby-sitting the child that day, and the injuries were discovered when he took the child to Ms. Murrays sisters home that evening.
In addition to his jail sentence, Mr. Frederick was ordered to pay $250 in court fines, fees and surcharges and $362.63 in restitution.
