Roderick J. Fleury


Henderson-Roderick J. Fleury, 88, Henderson, died Sunday morning February 2, 2014 at the Samaritan Summit Village where he had been a resident since January 2014.

Mr. Fleury was born September 14, 1925 in Syracuse, NY to Henry (Harry) and Muriel (Chisholm) Fleury. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1943. Mr. Fleury served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946. He was a signalman aboard LCI597 and was in many battles in the South Pacific including Iwo Jima, Marianas and Okinawa.

Mr. Fleury married Mary Jane Stansbury November 10, 1948 in Alexandria Bay, NY. Mrs. Fleury passed away February 6, 2006. He worked as a Metallurgist at New York Air Brake from 1949 to 1987 retiring after 38 years. Mr. Fleury was an avid golfer and a member of the Bedford Creek Golf Club, Sackets Harbor. He also enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and canoeing.

He is survived by four sons Matthew Fleury and his wife Elise Passikoff, New York City; Roderick C. and Nancy Fleury, CT; David H. Fleury, Pulaski, NY; Bruce W. and Rebecca Fleury, Henderson, NY; two daughters, Caryn and David Montague, Marthe and Jerry Whitney all of Henderson, NY, his companion Hildegard Spencer, Sackets Harbor, NY, two sisters Audrey Corley, Spring Hill, FL. and Madelyn Fleury, Watertown, NY; 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

The Funeral Service will be Thursday evening February 6, 2014, 6:00 pm at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Rev. Steven Murray, Holy Family Church officiating. Calling Hours will be Thursday from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm prior to the funeral. Burial will be in the spring at Lakeside Cemetery, Sackets Harbor, NY.

Donations may be made in his honor to Henderson Volunteer Ambulance, Henderson, NY.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Samaritan Summit Village and the staff at Renal Care of Northern New York for their exceptional care of our father.
