Memorial Service for Betty I. Christy, 76, of Canton will be held on Friday, February 7, 2014 at 7:00 PM at the O’Leary Funeral Home, 5821 US Hwy 11; Canton with Pastor Michael H. Terrell, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until the time of the service. Betty died at home on Monday, February 3, 2014.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Richard “Dick” Christy; two sons, Kevin and wife Jill Bradley of Myrtle Beach; Raymond “Stan” Christy of Schenectady, NY; a daughter, Holly and husband James Stone of Canton; by three grandchildren, James Stone II and Bradley Stone, both of Canton and by Johna Bradley of Myrtle Beach and by a sister Belva Clough of West Potsdam.

Betty was born March 4, 1937 in Brasher, the daughter of the late George and Ada (Partlow) Hanley. She graduated from Potsdam High School and later from Rochester School of Business. Betty work in tax preparation in both Canton and Potsdam and for Kelly Sales in Madrid and was secretary for the family businesses. On February 21, 1973 she married Richard “Dick” Christy at the Brick Chapel Church in Canton.

Betty was a former member of the Kiwanis, a 45+ year member of the Canton Women’s Bowling Association, of which she was past secretary/treasurer and was secretary/treasurer for two separate leagues. More recently she was a member and secretary/treasurer of the Potsdam Coffee and Donuts Bowling league. Richard and Betty had a very fun life together traveling and spending time together, she loved being on the water at their camps at Joe Indian Pond and Quebec Brook. She loved her cat and especially loved her grandchildren.
