National Weather Service says St. Lawrence County will likely dodge weekend storm

MASSENA - The north country was hit with a day-long snowfall Wednesday, but meterologists say this region should escape the next major snowstorm heading for the southern part of the state and much of the Northeast later this week.

“The only threat of real snow is late Thursday through a Saturday time frame. The heavier stuff will be down further south,” meteorologist John Geoff said. “There are some snow showers in there in St. Lawrence County, but it won’t be anything too heavy. It will be nothing like (Wednesday’s snow.)”

Mr. Geoff said that limited reports came in from yesterday’s snow event, but the meteorologist noted that 5 inches of snow were reported in Edwards and 6 inches were observed in St. Regis Falls.

“In general, it has been in the three to five and four to seven inches range,” he said. “It was tracked from the Ohio Valley states and will be exiting off the shore (Wednesday night.)”

A winter weather advisory was put in effect yesterday at 4 a.m. and did not conclude until 7 p.m.

Massena residents Danielle Lashomb and Maria Valiano are among the many who are fed up with the seemingly never ending winter weather.

“Travelling back and forth from work is difficult in this stuff. I work at the St. Regis Nursing Home so I don’t have to go too far,” Ms. Lashomb said. “I don’t have to work outside thank goodness. I definitely like summer better (than winter.) It could end anytime now, and I’d be perfectly ok with that.”

“This winter has definitely been worse than usual. I don’t like the snow and just don’t like being cold,” Ms. Valiano added.
