ALEXANDRIA BAY A long-planned workshop to discuss the sharing of services between the village and the Town of Alexandria could result in savings for residents.
Once we get into it, and we get talking, we can find some ideas to help each other out, said town Supervisor Dale D. Hunneyman. Im sure we can come to a mutual agreement.
The workshop will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the town office, County Route 1.
Mr. Hunneyman said a meeting like this had been planned for years, but had never happened due to scheduling difficulties between the two boards.
One example of collaboration between the two pointed out by Mr. Hunneyman was in things like snowplowing in the village.
Though he saw ideas for further cooperation in areas like public works, he declined to offer specifics prior to the meeting about other areas where the two entities could work together to find savings.
The supervisor said the town has already cut its expenses drastically in line with a reduction in sales tax and bed tax revenues for the past five quarters.
Were on a very tight budget here in the Town of Alexandria, Mr. Hunneyman said.
The constraints of the towns budget, he said, added urgency to the two bodies discussions.
Were going to have to make these collaborations, Mr. Hunneyman said. You cant keep putting these on the taxpayers backs.
Village Mayor Danielle Jury was unavailable for comment Tuesday and Wednesday.
